Today is World Environment Day, a global reminder that we only have one Earth, and it’s up to us to protect it. 🌍✨
This year, as we focus on environmental rights and climate action, let’s move beyond awareness and into action. Whether it’s reducing waste, supporting sustainable habits, or advocating for the nature that sustains us, every small step creates a ripple effect of change.
The Reality of Our Energy Crisis
Unfortunately, on World Environment Day, many Gambians are navigating another day of darkness and water shortages. This isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a direct hit to our businesses, our healthcare, and our daily dignity.
The current crisis makes one thing crystal clear: our reliance on imported fossil fuels is a liability. Global geopolitics are volatile, and when fuel supply chains break, our country goes dark.
The Path Forward: Sun-Powered Resilience
We must stop treating solar energy as a “future goal” and start treating it as an immediate national priority. The Gambia is blessed with abundant sunshine; we have the natural resources to power our own growth without being held hostage by global market fluctuations.
“We call on the government to accelerate the shift to domestic renewable energy. Let’s invest in a resilient, sun-powered future that puts our energy security back in our own hands.” ☀️⚡️
