The Green Generation Program is a flagship school outreach initiative of the Green World Activists Foundation (GWAF). It empowers students across The Gambia with the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity to take meaningful action on climate change, hunger mitigation, and environmental sustainability.

What the Program Does

1. Climate Change Education

  • Understanding what climate change is
  • Exploring how it affects The Gambia
  • Learning practical adaptation and mitigation strategies
  • Recognizing the role of youth in climate action

2. Hunger Mitigation & Food Security

  • Introduction to sustainable agriculture
  • Edible tree planting and agroforestry
  • Soil and water conservation practices
  • Nutrition and community resilience

3. Environmental Sustainability Activities

  • Tree planting (“One Student, One Tree”)
  • School gardens and green spaces
  • Waste sorting and recycling initiatives
  • Clean-up campaigns and water-saving demonstrations

4. Youth Leadership Development

  • Strengthening environmental clubs
  • Building student leadership teams
  • Supporting peer-education groups
  • Creating youth climate ambassador networks
